Bow to your King!

What qualifies someone for a position of authority? We expect our leaders in government to have skill, integrity, and strength of character.
These are exactly the kind of qualities that set Jesus apart as a completely capable leader. Now, He was called and introduced as “the Lamb of God”—which is not the most inspiring title, nor a winning political brand. The Lamb even let himself be killed by his enemies.
Except that the world hadn’t heard the last of him. Jesus arose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Scripture and the Apostles’ Creed say that He even sat down at God the Father’s right hand as King, a place of supreme authority and honour.

And it was his accomplishments on earth that qualified him for leadership. By his death, He demonstrated his devotion to God and to his people. By his resurrection, He showed his great power. So it was after these events that Christ said in Matthew 28:18,
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Jesus had proven beyond all doubt his integrity and strength, so God entrusted the universe into his hands, which He is ruling for the good of his people, the church.
Sometimes we feel like our leaders are distant from us. Over there in Ottawa or down in Washington, they are totally unaware of our daily concerns.
Yet with King Jesus there’s no such distance. He understands what we need. He cares for us deeply. Our good is his greatest concern! Because He paid such a high amount for us, we know He won’t ever give up on his people. Because He’s got so much invested in us, we know our King will ever be faithful.
So this is the question today: Is Jesus the King of your life?
Have you bowed before his throne, and have you acknowledged that there’s no one greater than He?
When we humble ourselves before this glorious King, Christ will most certainly lift us up!
