Jesus is My Lord

In this series of short articles, we have been looking at the Apostles’ Creed, one of the earliest confessions of the Christian faith.
But when we read the New Testament, we find an even older confession than in our Creed:
Jesus is Lord.
Jesus is Lord: He is our master and ruler (Rom 10:9).

Jesus is Lord, because He owns us, having bought us with his own costly blood (1 Pet 1:19).
We owed eternity to God for our sins, and we couldn’t pay a minute of it. So Satan stood close at hand, ready to accuse us, hopeful to claim us.
But through the crucified Christ, God “has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son” (Col 1:13).
By faith in the gracious Lord, sinners are saved from a pitiful existence. And now Jesus takes over complete responsibility for us.
When we need defense, our Lord will stand up for us.
When we need help, our Lord will come near to us.
On the day we die, our Lord will claim us, because for us He’s fully paid the price.
“Jesus is Lord.” This is a rich comfort, and at the same time it’s a high calling. For when we belong to Christ, we’re also his servants. Christians have been given the task of working for the Master. With single-minded devotion, we are called to serve our Lord. If He commands us, then we must do it.
To those who don’t yet believe, such obedient devotion might sound like a burdensome task. But truly, it’s a load that is light, a yoke that is easy.
How good it is to belong to the Saviour Christ, the Lord!
