Look Up!

Have you ever known someone who always had his head in the clouds?

We might be inclined to say that such people are out of touch with reality. But it’s not a bad thing to have this heavenly perspective. Paul tells us in Colossians 3:1,

Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Because there’s more to life than this present world and its broken reality. We have to look up—up to Christ.

Jesus came to this earth to live and to die and to rise from the grave. And once Jesus finished his mission, He went to sit at God’s right hand. But that wasn’t the end. The Apostles’ Creed reminds us that one day Christ will return on the clouds, and He will judge everyone by our answer to that one essential question:

Have you believed in Christ as Lord?

Because his day of judgment is quickly approaching, God urges us to set our believing hearts on things above. And when we do, our view of things is greatly changed.

When we are looking to Christ’s everlasting treasures, we won’t linger on this world’s temporary attractions.

When we are looking heavenward to Christ, our personal goals are reoriented and our priorities reordered—now it’s all about serving Christ, the living Lord and King.

When we look to Christ in faith, we receive his forgiveness for our guilt, his comfort in the midst of our troubles, and his Spirit’s guidance through our confusion.

When we have our eyes fixed on Christ, we’ll be prepared to welcome him on that day when He returns in triumph with all his angels.

So keep looking up!

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-11

Prayer: Lord God, help me to seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at your right hand. May I live every day on this earth to serve him, and to prepare for his sure return from heaven! Amen.
