Things fall apart when there’s nobody in charge.

You might have witnessed this in a family, or in a business, or even in a country: chaos results if there is no one guiding things in the right direction. Thankfully, the Lord God is firmly in charge of this universe and everything in it.

The Apostles’ Creed affirms that God made everything, and that God maintains everything in his unfailing providence. He keeps it all—both big and small—in its proper place. As Paul says in Acts 17:28, “In him we live and move and have our being.” Without him, we would quickly fall apart. Without him, this world would fall apart.

God always takes care of his creation, because He has given it a special purpose: it’s for the higher glory of his awesome Name. “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever!” (Rom 11:36).

It is this purpose that is seen especially in God’s interactions with mankind. We are God’s special creatures so that He can enjoy fellowship with us. The eternal God doesn’t need this relationship with us, but it is his great delight.

This truly is the wonder of the Bible’s message: God Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, has granted us the privilege of having communion with him, through his own dear Son.

When we believe in Jesus Christ, the powerful and majestic God of creation becomes our loving and gracious Father!

And because He is our Father, we know that He will also take perfect care of our life. He will feed us, He will guide us, He will lead us, He will forgive us, and finally, He will bring us to himself.

It’s so good to rest in the LORD, the upholder of all!

Prayer: Father, you are Creator of all, and Upholder of all. Help me to rest in your care, knowing that my life is always in your hands, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
